Slough frustrated by poor decisions as they’re held at home by Borough

-

Slough Town 1, Eastbourne Borough 1

Slough Town extended their unbeaten run at Arbour Park to an impressive 20 matches with Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Eastbourne Borough, however, player manager Scott Davies said afterwards he was deflated they couldn’t get the win.

The Rebels had enough chances to have picked up all three points, and twice saw goals chalked off for offside in the first half, however, they were playing catch up from the very first minutes after

Moussa Diarra tapped the visitors in front. The hosts had to be patient in their pursuit of an equaliser, but it eventually arrived in the 79th minute when substitute Leon Chambers-Parillon turned the ball home from close range.

Trae Cook-Appiah might have won it for the home side late on, but his shot from distance crashed against the post and Borough survived.

The Rebels’ abandoned match against Bath City back on March 2 has really put the brakes on the side’s play-off charge. Since that game, they’ve failed to win any of their next four matches, however, within that run were impressive draws against promotion hopefuls Braintree Town and probable champions Yeovil Town.

After Diarra’s opener from close range, the first half was one of frustration for the

Rebels who felt they had a perfectly good goal chalked off just after the half-hour mark. Josh Jackman looked to have swept the ball past Foulkes, but Slavi Spasov closed in on the line to make sure and the linesman raised his flag. From video replays it seems certain Spasov was coming onto the ball from an onside position, but the goal didn’t stand.

It was the second time in the half Spasov saw his goal celebrations cut short. In the 13th minute, Lench whipped the ball into the box for Spasov to score but the officials felt he’d just strayed offside.

There was less goalmouth incident in the second half, but the Rebels managed to get themselves back in the game from Parillon’s 79th minute finish, and they might have won it late on with AppiahCook whipping a shot onto the post from distance.

Despite their frustrations, the result saw the Rebels close in on the play-offs. They’re now seven points behind St Albans City in seventh with a game in hand on them.

They are 12th in the table ahead of Friday's trip to Truro City. Tuesday's match at Taunton Town was postponed.
