Remarkable success for Rifle Club in South Africa

-

The Windsor Rifle Club is celebrating some remarkable recent successes, with five of its members selected to represent Great British teams at the World Target Rifle Championships in South Africa.

The club, which has operated in the borough for just under 80 years, saw all five members return from South Africa with at least one gold or silver medal.

Two members, Chris and

Nick, took part in the main event, which was held over two days with targets at 700, 800 and 900 metres each day.It proved to be a nailbiting affair with the result only determined by the final firers at the last target of 900m on the final day.

At the start of that range, Great Britain were slightly ahead of Australia, however – despite smashing the world record – they were edged out by a remarkable performance from the skilful Australian team. The margin came down to only four points from a possible 7,200.

In the u25s section, Great Britain were victorious, with one Windsor member, Tom, earning both team gold and an individual silver in the World u25s event.

Two Windsor members, Nick and Charles, also shot for the Great Britain Veterans team (for over 60s) and they also won silver medals, finishing just behind Australia.
