Green for go as Howard has rest reeling at Redhill

HOWARD Green, from Pontllanfr­aith, again trounced the Wednesday line-up at Redhill Fishery when he baited with paste and caught 113lb 8oz of carp from Penny’s Pond.

Tredegar competitor Adam Jones had 109lb 12oz of carp while it was the same fish for Alan Davies, from Trealaw, in third place with 104lb 4oz.

Wednesday evening at Woodstock Pond saw Paul Manley out fish the entry in the Newport Open by catching 32lb 7oz of carp and bream from peg 28 near the bailiff ’s cabin.

Cardiff Nomads stalwart Clive Roberts caught 26lb 11oz from two pegs away for second place while Rob Sims kept up his good run of form in the series in third place with 25lb 14oz.

The Sunday open was on Woodstock Pond and a good day for Newport 16-year-old Aidan Williams, who drew peg 59 in the back bay, baited with pellets and caught 56lb 8oz of carp and bream.

Bargoed competitor Chris Murphy put paste on the hook and caught 30lb of carp and bream to finish second while Mike George was two pegs away from the winner and third with 25lb 6oz.

Brothers Dallis and Andis Schneider took the section prizes with 25lb and 23lb 12oz.

There was a close finish to the Welsh Carp Championsh­ip qualifier fished over 48 hours on the Specimen Lake at White Springs Fishery.

Ethan Thomas and John Flewin banked 10 carp to 27lb for a total weight of 178lb 14oz to win while John Cooper and James Dawson included two 35.5lb carp in the 178lb 8oz that put them second and also through to the final.

Frank Davies and Paddy Payne had prize money in their pockets after both the Aberglais AC matches. Davies, from Tredegar, won at Phocle Lake with 52lb 5oz of carp caught on sweetcorn and was second at Sophie’s Pond with 109lb 9oz, while Merthyr member Payne finished third in both matches with 45lb 9oz and 104lb 1oz.

Adam Toomy was runner-up at Phocle with 48lb 5oz and the winner at Sophie’s was Mark Jones, from Merthyr, with 133lb 14oz.

Hengoed angler Lyn Jones and Carlo Bertorelli, from Cwmbran, topped the bill for the second week in the Over-50s Wednesday match at Cefn Mably when they weighed in 104lb and 94lb.

Three tench and a couple of roach put Nicky Leeson ahead with 12lb 8oz in the Wednesday evening New City Anglers match at Lliswerry Pond.

Two tench backed up with roach made up Sean Jordan's second best 11lb 6oz and the 7lb 8oz that put Sean Bill in third place.
