CARDIFF’S MOST EXPENSIVE ADDRESSES

- KATIE GUPWELL AND CLAIRE MILLER katieann.gupwell@walesonline.co.uk

DESIRABLE addresses in Cardiff make up half the top 10 most expensive streets in Wales – including all of the top three.

You now need more than £700,000 to afford a home in the priciest street, Dderwen Deg in Lisvane, according to the latest figures released by the Land Registry.

The figures only include streets on which three or more properties were sold last year.

And, as well as the five streets in Cardiff, the top 10 also included addresses in Penarth and Cowbridge.

Dderwen Deg was ranked the most expensive street to live on with an average price of £734,199.

It is a recently-built housing area that has already seen some big sales.

Director of Kelvin Francis Estate Agents Tony Filice said this is partly why the properties are so pricey.

“They are new builds, located on the fringe of Cardiff,” he said.

“The houses also have countryside in the back and the village centre is within walking distance.”

Fairwater Road also made it into the top 10.

This long road in Llandaff has an average house price of £652,000.

It’s also the same street where Roald Dahl was born, so there’s a little bit of Welsh history here too.

“The prices vary on this road, as it depends what kind of house you’re looking for,” said Tony.

“Some houses were built in the 1930s – there are a whole stock of Victorian houses.

“Some properties on the street are worth up to £1.5m.”

The property expert said you can also find very expensive properties in Cefn Mably Road, which also made it on the list.

Located in Lisvane, the street is just around the corner from Dderwen Deg.

The road has an average property price of £645,499.

“Again, this road is on the fringe of Cardiff so it’s in a desirable location,” said Tony.

Mill Road, also located in Lisvane, was the next Cardiff property to make it on the list. The road links Lisvane to Llanishen in the capital and the average price sits at more than half a million.

Some properties on the street even have swimming pools.

“This is quite a long, windy road,” said Tony.

“Properties can be found for up to £1.5m in the area.”

For house-hunters looking for a more scenic view, Lake Road East is probably one of the best places to invest in a luxury property.

Roath Park is just a few yards away from the front door of the houses, which fetch an average of £564,313.

Tony said: “The properties are close to Roath Park which is appealing for families with children.

“There are also good primary and secondary schools in the area and you’re also close to the centre of Cardiff.”

Meanwhile the figures showed that the cheapest roads to live on in Wales were Belgrave Road in Colwyn Bay; Ty’r Felin Street, Woodfield Terrace and Dilwyn Street in Mountain Ash; Crescent Road, in Rhyl; Morton Terrace and Holyrood Terrace, both in Tonypandy; Long Row and Llewellyn Street, in Ferndale; and Derlwyn Street in New Tredegar.
