Family-run hotel named city’s best in online reviews
A FAMILY-RUN hotel has beaten some of the biggest names in the industry to be crowned the best in Cardiff by online reviewers.
The Lincoln House on leafy Cathedral Road is the number one hotel in the capital according to website TripAdvisor. Some 463 of the 649 people who have reviewed Lincoln House have given it the maximum “excellent” rating.
The city-centre business – which prides itself on offering “affordable luxury” – boasts a Victorian residents’ lounge and private bar.
All rooms are en suite with free high-speed Wi-Fi and full Welsh breakfast.
Recent comments on TripAdvisor include: “Lovely hotel, full of character. Staff are fantastic and friendly.”
Another reviewer wrote: “Huge room with a four-poster bed, sofa and fireplace. Really comfortable and a great breakfast, too.”
According to the results of reviews from thousands of visitors to hotels across the region on the website, it beat the Premier Inn on Churchill Way into second spot.
The hotel is one of the company’s most popular and one reviewer wrote: “A good price for a good night.”
The New House Country Hotel off Caerphilly Road on the fringes of the city, which bills itself as “the kind of retreat that city slickers spend their weekdays dreaming about”, was third. The four-star Park Plaza Cardiff – in the heart of the city on Greyfriars Road – came fourth. Boasting fully-equipped spa and health facilities with 20m indoor pool, spa bath, steam room and gym, one recent visitor noted: “Fantastic hotel and lovely staff – this is the very best hotel in Cardiff.”
And the Atlantic Wharf Travelodge in Cardiff Bay was named fifth, with its king-sized beds, modern design and reasonable rates winning particular plaudits from visitors.
Lincoln House was the sole hotel from Cardiff listed in Trivago’s Top 20 Hotels in Wales in 2015, and routinely making the number one spot in TripAdvisor’s rankings.
Its website notes: “The lovingly restored Victorian town house has received rave reviews online, being the recipient of TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the past three years and currently rated as Number 1 out of 77 hotels in Cardiff as well as a Trivago rating of 89.45.”
