Spring snow hits Rhondda Cynon Taff

-

SPRING is supposed to be officially here – but that didn’t stop the snow falling in Rhondda Cynon Taff yesterday.

These pictures show snow falling and sticking on the Rhigos Mountain Road, the A4061 – sticking to trees and grass verges.

The road connects Treherbert, in Rhondda, to Hirwaun, in the Cynon Valley.

March 1 was the first day of the meteorological spring, while Monday marked the first day of the astronomical spring.

And yesterday evening snow or sleet was forecast for Capel-y-Ffin and Llanwrtyd, both in Powys, according to the Met Office.

Today, most of Wales should expect heavy rain in the early hours – except for West Wales – with the rain clearing as morning approaches.

By 9am, coastal areas in Wales are expected to see cloud, while south, mid and north Wales, away from coastal areas, are expected to see a mixture of drizzle, light rain and heavy rain.

Sleet is forecast this morning for Brecon and Builth Wells, with light snow in Ebbw Vale and Rhayader.

By this afternoon, many parts of Wales will see cloud, sun and a few showers, with more rain forecast for north Wales going into this evening.

The Met Office’s regional forecast for Wales, for today, said: “The main rain and snow band will clear to the north-east in the morning.

“However, it won’t be long before showers break out in the south, including some heavy ones. Maximum temperature 9⁰C.”

For the rest of the week, it said: “Further rain is likely in the east on Thursday. Rain and strong winds on Friday will be confined to the far south.

“Saturday will be and warmer.” drier, sunnier
