Spring is definitely on the way, say experts

-

SPRING still felt far away in parts of Wales yesterday with the country enjoying another scattering of snow.

The south Wales Valleys were worst affected by the white stuff with Rhondda Cynon Taff particularly hit.

Motorists were warned of snowy conditions and reduced visibility on the Heads of the Valleys (A465) and A470 around Merthyr Tydfil on Wednesday.

Pictures showed snow falling and sticking on roads surrounding the Rhigos Mountain, gathering on grass verges and sticking on trees.

The A4061 connecting Treherbert in Rhondda to Hirwaun in the Cynon Valley was among highways affected by the weather.

Snow was also pictured in Ebbw Vale, while walkers were pictured making their way up Pen-y-Fan after the Brecon Beacons were treated to a dusting on higher ground.

But according to forecasters spring is on its way.

The Met Office forecast for the weekend predicts dry weather with light winds and pleasant sunshine.

Forecasters said Wales would see early cloud and rain spreading westwards today.

“However, it will become drier with brighter spells developing,” a Met Office spokesman added.

“It will be feeling a little less cold, despite the breeze.”

The maximum temperature is set to be 11C.

The spokesman added: “Friday will be dry and breezy with sunny spells. Saturday and Sunday will be dry with light winds and pleasant sunshine in the day, but frosty at night.”
