Madcap video shot at city landmark

-

WHAT do you get when you take Cardiff icon Ninjah, city landmark The Magic Roundabout, and a halfHungarian half-Welsh techno-folk duo called Cosmo and Flapsandwich?

The police turning up by the looks of a new madcap video from some of the Cardiff music scene’s most colourful characters.

Sandor Dus and Jason Phillips (aka Cosmo and Flapsandwich) decided to use the well-known and recently spruced up Magic Roundabout in the Splott area of the city film the video for their song On The Goulash, and enlisted the services of one man musical phenomenon and creative colossus Ninjah – best known for his city centre drumming antics – to direct it.

The track is taken from their new album Best Buddies, which is out now.

“It was an old traditional Hungarian song my dad taught me as a kid – my Hungarian is a bit rusty,” said Cosmo. “But I remember one line was ‘We will drink ’til German people use the ears of goats to plough the land.’”

Jason added: “We decided to film the video on one of Cardiff’s most iconic landmarks for fun, show it off to the world, and were wondering why no other band ever has. We both spent lots of time living in Splott over the years and we are planning a tour of Splott later in the year.

“Cosmo is Hungarian royalty and I’m a Valleys boy from Brynmawr. We’ve both been living in Cardiff for years. We pulled in Ninjah to direct it and he’s done an amazing job we think.”

The pair figured that their very public video-making might attract the attention of the local constabulary – and they weren’t wrong.

“We reckoned we had about half hour before the police might show so we headed down to the roundabout bailing out the back of our mate Keiths’ motor guerilla-style,” said Cosmo. “Ninjah demanded a costume change and it was a first for us being on a roundabout in our pants.”

Jason added: “Cars were beeping and shouting out of their windows. The police arrived and told us off and then moved us on.

“We all had a laugh and then headed back home to edit the vid.”
