Time to tackle St Brides

-

BEACH angling action will be centred on St Brides on Sunday where Garry Evans Seamaster points will go to the top 20 anglers in the Gwent and District SAC Open Competition, which takes place from 5.30pm to 8.30pm along a stretch of beach from the West Usk Lighthouse to Peterstone Gout.

Entry to the competition, which is also a Penn qualifier, is £9 or £3 for juniors and pensioners and booking in starts at mid day at Peterstone Lakes. Pre booking is available in a number of tackle shops tomorrow.

Heading up the lengthy prize list are cash payouts of £300 and £100 put up by Family Finance Ltd and other things to win include an Avocet Continental rod donated by Garry Evans Tackle; fixed spool reels from Anglers Supplies and Fishing World; a £50 voucher from Cwmbran Angling and a 12-month permit from Peterstone Lakes.

The juniors are fishing for £50, £30 and £20 donated by Paul Osmond Transport.

The weigh in and presentation are at Peterstone Lakes and the scales close at 9.30pm.

The decision to hold the Penygraig SAC competition at Swansea breakwater was a good one because there were fish about and Neil Gilbert, from Thomastown, had the best of a string of good catches with 11 dogfish adding up to 6.12kg. Cardiff member Andy Kimber caught nine dogfish weighing 5.16kg for second place and Mal Hughes, from Llantwit Fardre, was third with seven dogfish, one conger and 5.02kg.

Gwent and District SAC members also found the fish in the roving competition won by Neil Owen who caught a bull huss and three dogfish with a total weight of 6.39kg.

A ray and five dogfish made up second placed Barry Owen’s 5.68kg while it was five dogfish for Ivor Smith in third place with 3.48kg.

Newport and District SAC members fished in the sunshine at Barry and first prize went to Tony Hart, from Caerphilly, who caught two dogfish and a whiting for a weight of 1.68kg.
