FACEBOOK FRIENDS FOUND MY MISSING WEDDING DRESS:
A WEDDING dress that went missing from a window display was returned to its owner just 90 minutes after she launched a social media campaign to find it.
The dress, worth £3,250, was on display at a shop on Cardiff’s Castle Street when it disappeared on Saturday.
Two days later the gown’s designer, Sophie Creed, appealed to the bridal community on Facebook for help as a “last resort” to help her find it.
The post was shared hundreds of times and within 90 minutes, the dress, called Maya, had been found.
Sophie, 26, said: “The post had been shared 200 times in the first hour. It was crazy.
“I thought it would be sold and end up in the bridal industry somewhere or be altered to fit someone, so if enough local people saw it, they’d recognise the dress and get in touch. I wasn’t expecting to find it so quickly.”
Sophie designs her custom-made wedding dresses at E&W Couture, the brand she runs with her mother, Helen Creed, on Church Street in Cardiff.
The pair use an empty shop front on Castle Street to display some of their designs, which is where the dress went missing.
Sophie said: “The back curtains of the display are staple gunned all around the bottom and attached to each other so it’s fairly hard to get in.
“It’s also next to a scaffolded Dempseys and Revolution bar, which I can imagine is quite busy on a Saturday.”
Once the dress has been cleaned, Sophie will be putting it back up for sale.
South Wales Police have charged 49-year-old Andrew Phillips, from Adamsdown, Cardiff, with burglary from a commercial premises. He is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on April 25
