EE creating 60 new jobs at call centre

-

THE UK’s biggest mobile operator EE is recruiting 60 staff at its Merthyr Tydfil call centre.

Part of BT Group, EE’s call centre in the town already employs more than 800 with the vast majority drawn from the surrounding area.

The new roles are a part of the firm’s plans to hire 800 contact centre advisers for its sites across the UK.

As well as Merthyr, these advisers will fill positions in North Tyneside, Darlington, Greenock, Plymouth and Doxford.

The latest recruitment drive follows EE recently becoming the first UK mobile operator to bring back all customer service calls to the UK and Ireland, creating more than 1,000 new jobs in 2016 alone.

EE said the new recruits will join a team that has already helped improve its customer service, with complaints now well below the industry average.

More than 100 of the UK and Ireland roles will be offered as part of EE’s apprenticeship programme, giving people the opportunity to learn new skills, gain nationally recognised qualifications and build a long-term career with EE.

The company has recruited more than 1,300 apprentices since it launched the programme in 2012.

As well as investing in UK jobs, EE is making significant investments in Wales’ 4G network taking coverage from 40% of its landmass at the beginning of the year, to 90% by the end of 2017.

Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure Ken Skates said: “I am delighted that EE will be recruiting an additional 60 new advisers to its contact centre in Merthyr.

“This is excellent news for the local economy, particularly given EE’s commitment to training and developing its staff and supporting them to progress and build long term careers.”

Chief executive of EE Marc Allera said: “Keeping connected continues to play an increasing role in peoples’ lives, and we’re working hard to invest in our staff and our network to keep Britain connected and ensure we create the best experience possible for new and existing customers.

“We’re also proud to be continuing to support the UK jobs market and providing the platform for our staff and incoming apprentices to gain skills and build long and successful careers with us.”
