‘No plans to remove Ianto’s shrine’ in Bay

-

A SHRINE to a TV character will not be removed from its Cardiff Bay home despite fans’ fears.

Torchwood fans took to social media to complain that Ianto’s shrine, in Mermaid Quay, would be removed.

Many messaged Cardiff council seeking reassurance, but the land is owned by a private company.

A spokeswoman said: “Mermaid Quay has no plans to remove Ianto’s shrine.”

The shrine was set up after the death of fictional Torchwood character Ianto Jones, played by Welsh actor Gareth DavidLloyd.

Fans of the BBC series leave notes and trinkets at the wall, which has now been in place for almost eight years.

They had asked the council: “Have heard Cardiff council want to take down the Ianto shrine. “Why? Me and so many other fans still love it. It’s on Google maps”.

Another fan Katja Armbruster wrote: “Have heard that you want to put down the Ianto shrine. Why? So many fans still love it.”

Carol-Anne Holman asked the Mermaid Quay account: “Rumours are going round that Ianto’s Shrine is being torn down. Is it true?” Fans of the Doctor Who franchise were already distraught after it was announced the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff Bay will close this year. BBC Worldwide’s lease from Cardiff council will end this summer, a statement from the corporation said.
