The couple: Emily Elisabeth Rees, 25, and Kevin James Gallagher, 27, both of Merthyr Tydfil.

Emily works for Benefit Cosmetics at Debenhams and Kevin works for Mikerry Rail.

The couple live together in Merthyr Tydfil.

The venue: The couple married on April 1 at St Illtyd’s RC Church in Merthyr Tydfil.

“The date and venue is so special to us as my grandfather, Stanley Willetts, passed away four years ago and this would have been his 83rd birthday,” explained Emily.

“He married my nan in the same church 57 years ago.”

How they met: “I met Kevin when I was 15 and he was 16,” explained Emily.

“We met in Merthyr and we always seemed to be in the same places.

“Kevin became my friend and we started dating in 2009.”

The proposal: Kevin proposed on New Year’s Eve 2012 as the couple watched the fireworks in London.

The wedding: “We had our reception at the fantastic Peterstone Court in Brecon,” Emily said. “What a spectacular venue. “The atmosphere all day was electric. Everyone enjoyed themselves – there was so much laughter and happiness.

“We feel so lucky that we have such great family and friends who have given us all the help to make such a fabulous day more perfect than we could have ever imagined and will never forget.

“There are no words that can describe our love for them.”

The honeymoon: The couple spent three nights in Paris following the wedding and will be jetting off to Jamaica in June for a longer break.
