Residents highlight ‘botched’ road repairs
CRUMBLING repairs on Cardiff pavements have been described as “botched” after pedestrians shared pictures of the work.
Images shared by residents of Rhiwbina showed repaired sections of footpaths apparently disintegrating – although the council said the work was only temporary.
People took to Twitter to share pictures of the potholes in question, with a number of them along Heol Llanishen Fach. Another picture showed a pothole in Birchgrove Road opposite Birchgrove Primary School.
Phillip Ubuntu Cogin, 28, owns a business in Heol Llanishen Ffach and wants the council to do more for the area.
He said: “Heol Llanishen Fach needs a general tidy-up. It doesn’t seem right that our public pathways and roads are patched up in such a botched way.
“We are concerned that the council don’t do quality repairs and patch bad sections. What is wrong with the council?”
Twitter user Niko_B shared a picture of another pothole and tweeted it to Cardiff council, saying: “your outstanding shoddy workmanship shines again, 60 seconds of rubbish.”
In a statement, the council defended itself by saying the repairs were temporary.
A spokesman said: “The city council carries out a number of schemes to improve Cardiff’s roads.
“This involves three main elements – preventative work, resurfacing work and the reconstruction of roads that have severely deteriorated.
“This work does not include the fixing of potholes which is done separately.
“In this instance these are temporary pothole repairs which have been carried out on safety grounds.
“If required, a permanent repair will be carried out, which involves digging out the area around the defect and resurfacing this section of the highway or footway.”
