BOUQUET OF THE WEEK Young volunteer helps community

A YOUNG volunteer is this week’s recipient of the Echo Bouquet of the Week.

Ami Liddington, 22, from Rhiwbina, was nominated by councillor Jayne Cowan for the award because she does a lot of hard work in the community.

“She is a very caring young lady,” said Coun Cowan.

“She volunteers with her church, at the Rhiwbina Village events, at the Street Food Festival and also raises money for charities.”

Ami was very shocked when she realised she had been chosen to receive the bouquet. “It’s a big surprise,” said Ami. “I never would have expected it at all.

“I have seen Jayne nominate people before, but I would have never have thought my name would be put forward.”

Ami volunteers at a church in Llanishen in her spare time and supports and teaches young people about different things, including religion.

She also volunteers at many local events in Rhiwbina as she likes to play a part in helping the community.

She said: “I first started in 2014 and I worked as a marshall to help organisers with local events.

“I’ve worked on both the Rhiwbina village events and the Street Food Festival. I like engaging with people in the community.”

Ami, who works as a customer service advisor, has also worked in charity shops in the past.

Her work was much appreciated in a local Bobath store where she had various roles.

As well as operating the till, and working with customers, she also helped support the store manager.

“I’d just like to thank Jayne so much for nominating me,” Ami added.

“It’s so exciting and I’ll do all I can to help Jayne out as she does so much for the people in our community.”
