What we learned from City win over Terriers

CARDIFF City wrapped up their season in style with a comfortabl­e victory over play-off bound Huddersfie­ld to seal a top-half finish, writes Chris Wathan.

First-half goals from Kenneth Zohore and Joe Bennett came either side of a 20th minute red card for Wales internatio­nal goalkeeper Danny Ward to hand the Bluebirds a first away win in almost three months.

And Bennett gave the campaign a gloss finish with the third in the final 19 minutes from time to leave Neil Warnock’s side 12th in the final tiers.

Cardiff have not won on the road since that memorable midweek win at Derby on Valentines’ Day, but this win never looked in doubt once Zohore pounced after seven minutes; the Dane sent through by Anthony Pilkington before finishing with a caressed shot into the bottom corner.

Zohore was then involved as he was sent clear down the wing, Ward rushing out from goal and inadverten­tly handling the ball as he tried to stop his run.

It earned the Euro 2016 ace a straight red and his replacemen­t, Joel Coleman, could not stop Cardiff making it two when Zohore teed up Bennett for a smart drilled finish from the edge of the box on 29 minutes.

Brian Murphy saved well from Isiah Brown and Rajiv van la Parra put an effort just over the bar in minutes either side of the break as David Wagner’s men tried to find a way back into the game.

But it was all wrapped up when Zohore again turned provider for Bennett who placed home the square ball from the striker to give the season a winning finish. Here’s what we learned from the clash...
