Footage shows driver jumping red traffic light

-

A DRIVING instructor captured the crazy moment a motorist goes through a red light and weaves between traffic at a busy junction.

Simon Ludlow, 53, runs Drive Academy, based in Fairwater. He was giving a lesson and his pupil brought the car to a stop at the junction of Cathedral Road and Cowbridge Road East in Cardiff city centre.

The lights were on red when a dark blue car overtook them and edged its way across the junction. The vehicle narrowly avoided a bus and other cars as it crossed the road heading towards the castle.

Mr Ludlow said: “We had been sitting at the junction for quite a while and he went past us and edged across the junction. We were both open-mouthed.

“I tried to get a picture of the driver using my rear camera but the glare was too much. When you look at the rear camera you can see that there was another car between us and him and he drives past both of us to get to the junction.”

The dash cameras were a recent addition to Mr Ludlow’s vehicle. He had bought them a week before, due to similar incidents.

“I am out all day five or six days a week and bought the dash cameras a week ago because I had a few near-misses with plonkers,” he said.

“Two or three times a week I see someone do something stupid.”

Mr Ludlow had some professional advice for other road users: “It emphasises that if you go through a green traffic light you should never assume. You should check left and right for emergency vehicles and other road users.”
