Dancing film to honour Cardiff’s green spaces

-

RESIDENTS in Cardiff are being encouraged to celebrate their love of local nature by performing in their favourite green space as part of a new film.

The short video - named Boombox Caerdydd - will see 100 people filmed dancing to their favourite music in the garden, park or natural area that means the most to them in the capital.

RSPB Cymru has teamed up with Cardiff Council and arts company Migrations to put together the project which aims to celebrate Cardiff residents’ connection to nature and the green places they enjoy most.

As part of its Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff initiative, the conservation charity has been on a mission to get people in the city engaging with the nature on their doorstep and take action to support it.

Project manager for the campaign, Carolyn Robertson, said: “Since 2014 Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff has engaged over 20,000 people with Cardiff’s fantastic wildlife.

“But with over 400 green spaces in the city, Boombox Caerdydd is the perfect opportunity for the people of Cardiff to put the spotlight on the spaces that mean something to them – celebrating the places and people that put our legendary city on the map.”

From the breathtaking Bute Park shaped by landscaping legend Andrew Pettigrew, to Flat Holm – the city’s wild island in the estuary and base for Marconi’s legendary wireless transmission – Cardiff offers a whole host of iconic places where residents can dance in the wild.

Artistic director of Migrations, Karine Décorne, said: “The beauty of Boombox Caerdydd is that you don’t need to be a professional dancer to get involved, anyone and everyone, young or old, can take part – it’s all about putting on your dancing shoes and having fun.”

The quirky film will follow the success of Boombox Eryri in north Wales, which saw 100 people dancing to their favourite songs in 100 places across Snowdonia.

When finished, Boombox Caerdydd will be showcased at an event in Cardiff later this year.
