Firefighter and wife to take on Pen-y-Fan challenge

-

ON Saturday, Port Talbot firefighter Craig Hedges and his wife Leanne will aim to conquer the summit of Pen-y-Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales, 10 times in 24 hours for charity.

In February 2014, Craig and Leanne’s son, Luke, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the age of seven.

Three years on, Luke is still receiving treatment for this disease and has shown tremendous bravery, strength and determination throughout, missing out on many things most children take for granted but never complaining and he always has a smile on his face.

Mr Hedges said: “In keeping with Luke’s attitude, we are taking on this challenge to raise awareness and support for two charities linked with childhood illnesses including cancer: Dreams and Wishes and 2 Wish Upon A Star.”

The Ten y Fan challenge is an annual event to climb Pen y Fan mountain 10 times in 24 hours.

To put this challenge in perspective, it means more than 40 miles in total, and those that complete the full 10 climbs will have achieved the same overall height as Everest.
