NOTORIOUS TEENAGE KILLER FOUND DEAD:

- JESSICA WALFORD Reporter echo.newsdesk@walesonline.co.uk

A woman who was a convicted teenage killer has been found dead at a property in Cambridgeshire.

Tina Molloy, originally from Haulfryn, Penywaun, and Maria Rossi killed 70-year-old Edna Phillips in July 1992 on the Penywaun estate, near Aberdare.

Molloy, who it is believed changed her name following her release from prison, was found dead at a property in Cambridgeshire, earlier this month.

The death is being treated as nonsuspicious.

Molloy and Rossi, who were 17 at the time, strangled the half-blind pensioner with a dog chain, slashed her face with a Stanley knife and broke eggs over her body while high on drink and drugs. They then tried to scalp their victim. A day after the horrific attack, Rossi – who had known the victim since she was a baby – boasted about the attack, singing “We have killed Edna” to the tune of The Wizard of Oz.

Even though they had never met, Rossi infected Molloy, her best friend, with her hatred of the pensioner.

Judge Mr Justice Scott Baker branded them “evil products of the modern age” after the prosecutor told the court they “literally butchered” the pensioner.

When the teenagers were charged, a 300-strong mob stormed the homes of both families, smashing their windows.

Both families were given secret addresses after the incident.

Back in 2004, Miss Phillips’ former next door neighbour, Dennis Reece, said: “The feeling around here is that the girls will never come back.

“If they did, there would be ructions.”

Community worker and Residents’ Association vice chairwoman, Helen Boggis, added: “People are saying when the girls are let out it would not be a good idea for them to come back to Penywaun.”

Rossi and Molloy were jailed indefinitely in 1993. Molloy became eligible for release in 2004 after her sentence was slashed to 12 years in 2002.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed they were called after a woman in her 40s was found at a property.

They said the death was being treated as non-suspicious and have passed the case to the coroner’s office.
