Work around the city to get ready for final
THERE’S going to be an awful lot of changes in Cardiff over the coming weeks as the city prepares for its biggest ever event.
The Champions League final takes place in the city on June 3.
From new bridges to huge marquees and a big blue dragon landing at the castle, there is plenty happening across the city.
Pontcanna Fields is being turned into a huge campsite by developer Camping Ninja.
Tents are fully equipped and some are VIP and will include hot showers, televisions and more. Work on the site is due to start next week, with opening due to be on May 31.
Two VIP hospitality villages are being built. One is in Bute Park and the other is at Cardiff Castle.
All of the packages are sold out and the marquees are currently being constructed.
A bridge will be built to link the hospitality areas inside Bute Park and Cardiff Castle with the stadium.
Construction is due to begin on May 31. How it will look is currently confidential.
A 40m banner will be put over scaffolding that has been put up at the NCP car park on Westgate Street.
In Cardiff Bay, a floating football pitch is being built.
It will be open for four days as part of the free Champions League festival.
Churchill Way and Callaghan Square are being turned into official fan areas – one designated for Juventus fans and the other for Real Madrid fans.
