Craft beer and cider bar to be unveiled at pub

-

A NEW craft beer bar is to be opened at a Cardiff pub following its £300,000 refurbishment.

The Four Elms, in Roath, was subject to the major makeover which transformed the former skittle alley into a new lounge bar area.

The renovation also saw the creation of a beer garden with outdoor heaters and a covering.

After reopening in January, the pub has proved popular with customers but now, with summer approaching, the venue will be opening a new bar dedicated to craft beers.

Jon Bassett, owner of The Four Elms, said there was a demand for craft beer at the pub which he hopes the new bar will satisfy.

He said: “Currently the beer we sell sticks to the normal range of products but we’re going to make this new bar a complete point of difference.

“We’re going to have 18 craft ciders that will be changing all the time and then there’s going to be a range of craft lagers and ales. The beer is going to be completely craft.

“This will be unique to The Four Elms and it will be the second bar in the pub.

“Since we have done the refurbishment in December, we thought there wasn’t a lot of point having the same bar selling different sort of products and people are asking for different sorts of products.

“We don’t know at this stage how much we are going to sell but it will be a new challenge for us.

“We are generally mainstream but what we have found with The Four Elms is an aspirational side to the pub as well as being a community pub so people are looking for a point of difference.

“We haven’t finished the work on it yet but we’re also planning to do takeovers with different breweries.”

When the craft bar opens, there will be a range of beers and ciders including Franciscan, Maltsmiths Pilsner and IPA, and Orchard Thieves Hereford Cider, all on keg.

There will also be other ciders including Snails Bank and Dorset Nectar.

There are also new menus featuring grills, burgers and vegetarian choices.
