Caerphilly set for first costumed Comic Con

-

STAR Wars and Star Trek characters, pirates, and Ghostbusters are set to descend on Caerphilly when the town’s first-ever Comic Con event rolls into town next month.

The charity event at Caerphilly Leisure Centre takes place on Saturday, June 10, from 10am-5pm and will raise funds for Caerphilly Children’s Centre.

The event is part of Superhero Weekend, which is being held in the historic town from June 9-11.

Caerphilly is set to welcome artists, cartoonists and illustrators, as well as host stalls selling comic books, collectables, cinema memorabilia, jewellery and more for the event-goers.

Caerphilly Comic Con is the brainchild of Vik Yadh, who lives in Caerphilly, and is a regular on the Comic Con scene as both a visitor and private seller.

Vik, of science education teaching business Affordable Science, said: “There has never been a Comic Con in Caerphilly, so I decided to host one with a difference.

“Instead of full commercial cons or ones which donate profits to a named charity, we find and work with a local charity and help raise money via donations over the year until the day of the actual Comic Con.”

Superhero Weekend will also see schoolchildren in Caerphilly county don their favourite superhero outfits on Friday, June 9, when the youngsters can help fundraise for Enable, which raises funds for Caerphilly Children’s Centre.

They can also design and wear a superhero costume and be in with the chance of winning a walk-on role in a short movie, while other prizes include signed limited-edition artwork.

On Sunday, June 11, families can dress up as superheroes and enjoy special deals and events at a number of local pubs, including the Red Kite and Toby Carvery, both in Caerphilly.

Anyone who would like to take part in the event can email Vik at comic. con@yahoo.com or visit the website at www.caerphillycomiccon.co.uk

Tickets for the event are available via the Caerphilly Comic Con website, on the door, or at one of a number of vendors listed on the Comic Con website.

Tickets start at £4 for adults and £2 for concessions.
