Apology over serious delays to rubbish collections
CARDIFF council has had to apologise after “serious delays” in rubbish collections.
Homes across the city were left without their usual collections due to the Champions League final.
The authority had warned there would be delays to collections in Heath, Llanishen, Whitchurch, Rhiwbina and Lisvane.
Households were told that Friday collections of recycling and general waste would take place on Sunday instead.
But there have been further “serious delays” and some collections will now not take place until their next scheduled date.
The authority says it is “working hard to catch up on general waste”.
People in Llanishen were expecting their collections on Sunday but their general waste and food waste were left uncollected.
The council has told residents the collections will be on their usual collection day of Friday.
In, Rhiwbina, recycling bags were left uncollected and in Whitchurch, green bags were left behind in some streets and some houses had their food waste left uncollected.
A statement from Cardiff council reads: “Unfortunately city centre road closures and increased security measures for the Champions League Final have had an impact on household recycling and waste collections.
“Delays are expected throughout this week.
“Please accept our apologies and bear with us as all teams work hard to collect your waste”.
Anyone with general, garden or food waste is being asked to leave bags or bins out.
Any green bags that have not been collected should be taken back in by residents, according to the council.
The council says any collections missed last week have now been cancelled and that recycling collections could be affected this week.
The advice is: “It is possible we may need to cancel some recycling collections this week.
“If your recycling is not collected this week, please take it back in.
“If you are able to wait until next week for a recycling collection, please do not put your green bags out for collection”.
Anyone with a bulky waste collection booked is told that it “may be delayed”. to continue
