City in link to double swoop

-

CARDIFF City are set to land Rotherham United striker Danny Ward, according to reports.

The Sun are claiming that Neil Warnock, who worked with Ward during his spell as Rotherham boss in the 2015/16 season, will get his man this week.

Warnock has reiterated his desire to inject more goals into the Bluebirds lineup. Kenneth Zohore scored 12 times last season but is in need of attacking support.

Ward, 25, whose 12 goals weren’t enough to keep the Millers afloat in the Championship last term, has one more year remaining on his contract at the New York Stadium.

The report from journalist Alan Nixon claims the Bluebirds will pay £1million to bring Ward to Cardiff City Stadium after a medical.

The former Huddersfield forward, who can also play out wide, started his career at Bolton Wanderers before spells at Swindon Town and Coventry City.

Meanwhile the Bluebirds have made a £1.2m bid for Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes, according to reports.

The Bluebirds have rivalled a similar bid from Scottish champions Celtic, who are also in talks with the Republic of Ireland international, say Sky Sports.

Celtic’s offer could also see 22-year-old midfielder Ryan Christie go the other way to Pittodrie.

Cardiff tried to sign Hayes twice in the January transfer window but both bids were rejected, and the player subsequently signed a new deal with Aberdeen until 2019.

Hayes made 43 appearances for Aberdeen last season as they finished runnersup in the Scottish Premiership, scoring 11 goals.

The 29-year-old began his career in Reading’s academy but he never made a senior appearance for the Royals and signed for Leicester in 2007. Hayes struggled for game time at the Foxes and spent time on loan at Northampton and Macclesfield before joining Inverness Caledonian Thistle on a free transfer in 2009.

After three years in the Highlands he moved East to Aberdeen, for whom he has made over 200 appearances and scored 30 goals.
