Cardiff still returning to normal after football final

-

RESIDENTS should see the city return to almost normal today after the Champions League final.

The city had seen huge temporary changes for security reasons.

Temporary concrete blocks remain on the Taff Trail. The council says they will be removed today.

It has said that barriers from Callaghan Square were due to finally removed yesterday.

Residents in the north of the city have seen their bin collections disrupted.

In a number of wards, collections were delayed from Friday until Sunday – the day after the game.

But “serious delays” meant people were then advised to take recycling waste back off the street and it would not be collected until a week after their original collection date.

A council spokesman said: “Unfortunately, road closures in the city centre and increased security measures for the Champions League final have had an impact on our household recycling and waste collections this week, for which we apologise.

“The vast majority of the delays will have been completed by today.

“Our teams are working hard to collect the waste and all collections will be completed by Friday. Please accept our apologies.”

The spokesman said that all green bags which were not able to be collected will be taken this Friday.

But some disruption will continue for a number of weeks.

Coopers Field will remain closed until September 8 as the whole field is being replanted.

Events due to be held on the field over the summer will take place at different city locations.

Tulip Avenue and the North Gate, both at the rear of the castle, will have restricted use until the end of June so that vehicles can continue to use it.

Event vehicles will continue to use Fishers Bridge and the bridge off North Road.

Cyclists and pedestrians have been warned to use an alternative route rather than the vehicle access bridge until June 26.

Diversions will also be in place for the cycle path which runs between Millennium Bridge and Fishers Bridge. To receive a free brochure containing price details fill in and return the coupon to the address below or please call us on: Please send me Pidgeons Independent Way prices
