YOURS Charity thanks all of its vital volunteers

-

VOLUNTEERS who support people living with terminal illness have enjoyed a special party courtesy of Marie Curie during Volunteers’ Week.

The Marie Curie Cardiff & the Vale Hospice in Penarth played host two celebration events to thank volunteers for giving up their time to support the charity’s work.

Two events were held for volunteers – a tea party in the afternoon, to help promote the charity’s latest fundraising campaign the Blooming Great Tea Party, and an evening buffet provided by the John Lewis Cardiff store, which is supporting the summer campaign.

Both events were attended by volunteers who support Marie Curie in a variety of ways; from drivers and fundraising volunteers, to helper volunteers and those who provide complementary therapies to patients and carers. There were also volunteers from the charity’s Pontypool office.

The charity’s chief executive, Dr Jane Collins, attended the hospice to thank volunteers for their support without which, she said, the charity would not be able to reach nearly so many people.

She said: “I am really delighted to be here in Cardiff.

“I really wanted to come and see you and to thank-you for all you do for us.

“We are incredibly lucky at Marie Curie to have so many volunteers.

“I don’t think we can thank-you enough, so having this event is just a small way that we feel we can thank you for what you do.

“We really wouldn’t be able to do our work without your support.”

Paula Elson, hospice manager, added: “We were thrilled that so many of our volunteers were able to attend our special celebration events so that we could thank them for their amazing support.

“Without the support of our volunteers Marie Curie would not be able to continue to provide care and support to people living with a terminal illness, and their families, both here at the hospice and in communities across Wales.”
