“The atmosphere was amazing, something was happening across the whole country.”

She returned to the count, only believing the result was hers at about 2.30am.

There was a flurry of interviews and she didn’t know her partner Alun (AM for Blaenau Gwent) had gone to collect her daughters.

“As I walked out, I saw them running across to me. I just gave them the biggest hug”.

They walked into Transport House and she was cheered in.

She finally got home at 4.30am but sleep wasn’t an option.

What followed was interview, photocalls and handing out the all important thank yous to her team and family.

On Saturday afternoon she began making arrangemen­ts for her first day in Westminste­r.

She arrived in London on Monday, waved off at Cardiff Central by her team.
