Road closures for big stadium gig

COMMUTERS and gig-goers are being warned there could be delays in the city centre tomorrow as Robbie Williams comes to Cardiff.

The former Take That star is coming to the Principali­ty Stadium as part of his world tour.

About 50,000 people are expected to be in the capital for the concert.

Some city centre roads will be closed off from 6pm until 11.30pm.

There will be also be security checks for people going into the stadium.

The stadium has new security arrangemen­ts and only small bags can be taken inside.

Anyone travelling by car is told to use park and rides and there are warnings that city centre car parks will be busy.

Limited extra train services will be put on and a queuing system will be in place at Cardiff Central Railway Station.

Queen Street Station will close at 9.45pm.

Event parking is at Cardiff City Stadium and costs £8 if booked ahead or £10 on the day.

Cars can park from noon. The last bus will leave the pick-up point at 11.30pm.

Parking at Sophia Gardens will cost £15 on the day.

There will also be “controlled access” to the civic centre area. Car parking there will also cost £15.

Coach parking is available in the Civic Centre and costs £20 per coach.

Buses will be diverted out of the central city centre bus stops.

The St Mary Street taxi rank will be closed from 6.30pm and will re-open from 11.30pm but the Mill Lane taxi rank will not be affected.

Roads closed from 6pm 11.30pm:

Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street.

Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its until junction with Westgate Street.

Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment).

Plantagene­t Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted).

The following roads will be closed in their entirety: Duke Street, Castle St, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road.

The following roads will be closed from 9pm until 11.30pm:

Saunders Road from the junction with St Mary Street and all of Customhous­e Street.

Penarth Road from the junction with Saunders Road to the entrance leading to the back of the Cardiff Central Railway Station.

If there are any safety concerns, further roads could be closed.
