Pair of dolphins spotted swimming at Porthcawl

-

SOMETIMES there is no need for a fancy holiday abroad, you can see some of nature’s more beautiful sights right here at home.

Dolphins were spotted off the Porthcawl coast during our most recent sunny spell, and the fortunate weather was probably a contributing factor in being able to see the mammals.

Hayley Grant, from Pyle, was one of the lucky few on the boat: “We’ve had a boat for 20 years and I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

Mrs Grant, 54, who runs Georgie’s Diner in Pyle, was out with her husband and sister and brother-in-law, who were visiting from London when they spotted the pod of dolphins.

“My sister was down from London and couldn’t believe it, we were absolutely delighted,” she said.

“I was so busy watching, my husband Phil had to film and drive the boat. It was unbelievable.”

Other people were also fortunate enough to see the dolphins near to Nash Point.

Steve Rosser wrote on a blog post called Whales in Wales: “I took my new knee and my crutches over the common to do a porpoise survey.

“I had a five-minute sit-down to recover before starting to look at ideal sea conditions but the swell was quite large.

“After ten minutes I spotted a fin near West Nash buoy, 6.4km from my watch position.

“A couple more fins appeared before it dawned on me that they were not porpoise fins.

“Then one breached looking just like a common dolphin.

“After 60 years of messing about on the coast at Porthcawl, they are my first dolphins.”

Mrs Grant posted the video that her husband shot on the group Porthcawl First.

She said: “I don’t usually post anything on Facebook, but I had to share the amazing moment with everyone.”
