YOUR PETS ‘Fish have helped Jacob, four, learn to be responsible’

-

Pets’ names: Ben, Black Power Ranger and Blaze and the Monster Machines. Ages: Two years old. Owner: Jacob Cunningham, four, from Pentwyn.

Jacob’s story, told by mum 26-yearold hotel worker Jade Cunningham: “They are definitely Jacob’s fish.

“He had them on his second birthday after my mum bought them for him.

“He was over the moon when he first had them, he couldn’t stop feeding them or looking at them.

“He did have another one called Holly but she died a couple of weeks ago, that’s when we had to get Black Power Ranger.

“There was no way that I could keep it from him and just replace Holly.

“It did not go down well when I told him about Holly, he did cry and it was hard to explain the meaning of life to a four-year-old through goldfish.

“It sounds bad, but when I said we would replace Holly with a new fish he was OK.

“He does look after them and feed them every day, and then I help clean the tank with him.

“The tank is in the living room, it’s a standard size tank big enough for the three of them.

“When we got the tank he bought a little fake plant and a starfish, and some stones, of course.

“You can tell them apart with how they act, and Black Power Ranger obviously looks a bit different.

“When we first had him I thought the other two would pick on him as the new one, but they’ve all been fine.

“Jacob is quite a caring boy anyway, he likes to look after things like with his younger brother Toby.

“He definitely takes things to heart, like when Holly died. But I definitely think it has helped teach him how to be responsible after looking after them.”
