Heavy rain warning as weather turns wet

-

SOME part of Wales could have 45mm of rain in the next week as wet and windy weather moves in.

Channel 4 weather presenter Liam Dutton tweeted that low pressure across the UK would bring “plenty” of rain for most of the week, with Wales in particular set to receive 20 to 45mm.

The Met Office said that while last night was due to remain dry but cooler, it will be a slightly different story for the rest of the week.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “On Monday, there’s a dry morning in store with long sunny spells, but cloud will thicken during the afternoon and patchy rain will arrive in the west during the evening.

“From Tuesday to Thursday, there will be periods of sometimes heavy rain which will affect us at times over the coming days. Brief brighter and drier spells are likely, and it will be cooler than last week.”

Wednesday looks set to be the wettest day in South Wales, with heavy rain forecast in Treorchy, Caerphilly and Cardiff.

The change in weather comes just days after the warmest spell of sunshine so far this year. Temperatures in Wales reached 31C during the heatwave – the average temperature for June is 17C.

The high temperatures came from importing warm southerly winds arriving from Spain and France.

In south-east Wales, today will be cloudy but dry.

The heavy rain is expected to arrive tomorrow morning from 10am.

By Thursday the rain will have eased into more showery conditions.

Temperatures will be between 13C and 21C this coming week.

So far forecasters predict that the weekend is set to be dry, with highs of 16C.
