Where the street has no name...
THE lyrics to U2’s classic “Where the Streets Have No Name” were inspired by a vision of a world without divisions or borders of prejudice.
Yet, acccording to Cardiff man Gabriel Strange-Wood, the reality of living in a street with no name is that you just don’t get deliveries when you want them.
The 43-year-old has spent six months without a street sign on his new-build development in Bryn Heulog Court, Pentwyn.
He says parcels have gone astray and his wife has missed valuable appointments with a support worker because visitors have been unable to find his address.
“Anyone trying to find the houses on the cul-de-sac usually can’t and I have to run out and walk down the road to meet them,” Mr Strange-Wood said.
“The housing association has said they have tried to get it sorted, and I was given a contact number by Connect to Cardiff. Yet I have had no luck getting in touch with them.”
Gabriel moved into the property on Bryn Heulog Court, Pentwyn, with his wife Christina, 38, in November last year.
“The housing association has been trying to get a street sign sorted to no avail,” Gabriel said.
“Today one delivery driver said it took him about an hour to find the street, and another very expensive package was delivered to the wrong address.
“My partner also has mental health problems and sometimes her support workers cannot find the house either, which isn’t helping her mental state.
“She usually opts for the more stressful travelling to meet people even though it causes her higher anxiety to do so, but at least the appointments happen.”
The property is managed by housing association United Welsh and was built by JEHU Project Services.
“One of my biggest concerns at the moment is if the emergency services cannot find the street, then it could be a potentially life-threatening situation,”
A spokesperson for United Welsh said: “The issue regarding the street sign was raised with our Neighbourhood team during an estate inspection of Brynheulog Court.
“We have contacted the contractor for the development and they will be erecting the sign in the next few weeks.”
