BOUQUET OF THE WEEK Linda has devoted a lifetime to choir

-

A TIRELESS choir director who has spent 40 years raising money for charity is the winner of this week’s South Wales Echo Bouquet of the Week.

Linda Morgan is the music director of the Castle Coch Choral Society as well as Cardiff councillor for Whitchurch & Tongwynlais.

She has been nominated by choir treasurer Mary Cook on behalf of the group for all her work.

Linda set up the choir 40 years ago and balances her job as a music teacher and councillor with organising rehearsals and fundraising concerts for charities. The choir now has 75 members from Tongwynlais and North Cardiff and meets for rehearsals at St Michael and All Angels Church.

Mary, who has been friends with Linda since school, said: “Linda has done an awful lot in 40 years to conduct a choir. She was married with two small children when she started the choir so it was a big commitment for her. She’s very committed, very outgoing and exceptionally busy, she never stops. Linda does a lot in the community and the church and she always commits herself to everything she does.”

Linda started the choir after her family members previously ran singing groups in the area. “My whole family is very musical and my uncle used to run a male voice choir,” she said.

Every year, the group choose an children and adults charity to donate to and hold concerts at Christmas and Easter to raise money. “We must have raised hundreds of thousands over the years,” said Linda. “Our 40th anniversary concert for Cancer Research was sold out.”

As well as running the choir, Linda is involved in the community council, Whitchurch and Tongwynlais Festival committee and helps run litter picking events throughout the year.

“I know where I come from and my community is really important to me,” she said. “I’m not one to sit around and read, I love to be out doing things.”
