RECORD CROWDS AS SUN SHINES ON WEEKEND OF FESTIVALS

THOUSANDS of people made the most of the weather and soaked up the sunshine in Cardiff this weekend at summer events in the city.

The Tafwyl Welsh language festival in Llandaff Fields on Saturday and Sunday, saw the summer weather boosting visitor numbers.

The festival was established by Menter Caerdydd in 2006 to celebrate the use of the Welsh language in Cardiff.

This year saw it move to Llandaff Fields because of the work that is still being done at Cardiff Castle after the Uefa Champions League final in June.

Bands playing on the main stage on Saturday included Y Niwl, Yws Gwynedd, Geraint Jarman, Alys Williams, Argrph and Aled Rheon.

Many also enjoyed a respite from the sunshine in the acoustic tent – or in the educational tents devoted to science, sports, the arts and more.

There was also a huge range of food on offer.

Cardiff Castle was also busy this weekend as visitors made their way to Joust to take in a “dazzling” display of medieval jousting and combat.

A huge favourite with the crowds and a popular family event, The Knights of Royal England returned for their 10th anniversary at Cardiff Castle with an epic display of jousting and horsemanship.

Alongside the fiercely competitive displays of combat, visitors were treated to storytelling, lessons in circus skills, and armour crafting in the village encampment.
