Sheeran show seats ‘costing £350 each’

-

TICKETS to see Ed Sheeran in Cardiff are selling at more than four times their original cost, despite the pop singer asking fans not to use resale sites.

Tickets were priced at between £49.50 and £82.50 for the gigs at the Principality Stadium next June.

Tickets sold out within an hour on Saturday morning and immediately hotel prices rocketed.

The Galway Girl star will complete a historic three consecutive dates in the city.

Before the tickets went on sale, the star had tried to stop tickets going on resale sites.

Writing on his tour website before the tickets went on sale he said he wanted to avoid “fraud and hideous overpricing” from secondary sellers.

To try to stop the problem Sheeran has teamed up with company Twickets which allows spare tickets to be sold at face value or less.

“For this tour I’ve teamed up with a company called Twickets – which is a safe, sensible and fair place for people to sell or buy any spare tickets they have for the shows.

“I’d ask all of you to use them and no other of these so-called ‘secondary sellers’ – no matter how legit they look, this is by far the best option,”

Event website Viagogo currently has seated tickets for £351.12 and standing tickets priced at £270.

Some hotels in Cardiff already sold out of rooms.

One site, booking.com, has Cardiff have Bay’s Future Inn and the Park Inn as sold out. Prices elsewhere in the city have rocketed, with double rooms at the city centre Jurys Inn advertised at £429 on the Friday night of his tour. The Park Plaza’s cheapest room is £349 for Friday, June 22.

Soaring prices have also been seen across the UK, as tickets were resold within minutes of the official release despite warnings from Sheeran’s promoters.

One pair of tickets were advertised on Viagogo for a total of £174,000 for the star’s Wembley performance.

Fans attending the sell-out tour will be expected to take ID and a photocopy of the card used to pay for the ticket.

Grime artist Stormzy is also rumoured to be appearing at the Welsh gig.
