CELEBRATIONS Pair mark 60-year milestone
A COUPLE who met in school and became childhood sweethearts have celebrated a milestone anniversary 60 years on from their big day.
Anne and Bryan Marshall have celebrated their diamond wedding.
Both born in Cardiff, they went to Herbert Thompson School in Ely.
They became firm friends, and friendship later blossomed into romance.
Now both aged 81, Anne and Bryan got married on June 1, 1957, at Fairwater Presbyterian Church in Cardiff, followed by a honeymoon in Torquay.
They began their married life in rented rooms in Canton, then Roath and later Fairwater before they were able to buy their first home in Llandaff North.
When they married, Anne worked in Canton, while Bryan also worked locally.
Bryan later started his own audio visual business, which he successfully ran until he retired.
When the couple started a family, Anne stayed at home to raise their two children – Dean and Sally – but returned to work when they started school.
She worked as a teaching assistant at a school and later became an usher at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court until she retired.
The couple also lived in Whitchurch before they settled at their current home in Taffs Well.
Over the years, the devoted couple have enjoyed many holidays in the popular seaside town of Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, where they owned a holiday home, as well as holidaying abroad with family.
Mrs Marshall enjoys cake decorating, while her husband has always been a keen gardener. An element of their lives that has remained important to them over the years has been their church life.
The couple now have five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The pair celebrated their diamond wedding with a party at Whitchurch Rugby Club with family and friends, and were delighted to receive a congratulatory message from the Queen.
