Are these four City stars in the last-chance saloon?

KADEEM Harris’ special relationship with Neil Warnock was behind his decision to sign an extended two-year contract at Cardiff City.

Harris’ future appeared in doubt during the latter stages of the 2016/17 season, though his form continued on an upward trajectory.

The wide man hit four goals and chalked up the same number of assists in a breakthrough Bluebirds season last year. It triggered speculation he could leave the club this summer, but Harris has since agreed a new deal until summer 2019.

And, following his first preseason appearance for Cardiff in Monday night’s 7-2 thrashing of Tavistock in which Harris claimed another two assists, the 24-year-old revealed a close bond with Warnock was a major factor in his decision to stay in South Wales.

Harris is now content and eager to repay Warnock for the faith shown in him last season.

“(The contract) was a good reward for the season before and hopefully I can repay the manager in the two years to come.

“He’s a brilliant manager, he’s very encouraging.

“Ever since he’s come in, we’ve got on very well and he’s given me an opportunity – something that I never got before he came. So he gave me that opportunity and I’ve done decently.”

Harris mirrored Warnock’s view that Cardiff could challenge for promotion next season, with the wide man impressed by the club’s summer business so far.

That was apparent in the Tavistock victory, with Harris dovetailing effectively with new boy – and double goal-scorer – Nathaniel Mendez-Laing in the first half at Langsford Park.

“I think the team is forming very well,” he added. “We’ve got a few new signings and, I know that these games are all about fitness, but it’s good when the team puts on a good performance like we did. That was very encouraging.

“We’ve got a few more signings but it’s good to have competition. We have that this season and I don’t think we had it as much last season, but that will push everyone to do well on a regular basis.” THE future looks bleak for some Cardiff City players after they were left out of the Bluebirds’ first-team touring party that travelled to Devon and Cornwall.

The week began with a 7-2 triumph over AFC Tavistock and finishes - for the first-team players at least - with Friday night’s showdown against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

And though several players will join up with the squad for tomorrow night’s Under-23s game at St. Austell (and Saturday’s U23 clash with Bideford), the list of absences is telling.

Neil Warnock has already confirmed some first-team players are bound to depart the club before the transfer window shuts, with those left behind this week the most likely to leave.

Mark Harris, Cameron Coxe, Ibrahim Meite and others will also arrive for those Under-23s games, but it is not thought Warnock is looking to offload the young trio.

With just 20 fully-fit first-team players on the trip (Monday night’s squad of 18, plus Anthony Pilkington and Sol Bamba), the Cardiff playing days of certain other players seem numbered...
