Former Wales on his career

-

MARTY Holah, probably.

It’s a really tough question, but when he signed for us he still had a lot of petrol in the tank and for three or four seasons he was fantastic, a phenomenal player.

He was brilliant at turning over opposition ball and it said everything about him that he won over 30 caps for the All Blacks during an era when they had Richie McCaw playing in the same position. He looked after himself, was strong and fit and professional in everything he did. There were other excellent players, but Marty was something else.

LET’S go for Lyn Jones.

He could be a bit off the wall at times but his rugby knowledge was second to none and technically he was really on the money.

We didn’t win the Heineken Cup under him and he had a lot of stick for that, but he thought a lot about the game and I am grateful to him for giving me my chance at the Ospreys.

Right up there, too, is Jonathan Humphreys. He is one heck of a good forwards coach and it has been great to see him go on and sample international rugby with Scotland. It’s definitely worth mentioning Clive Jones, Treorchy’s former coach who was recently appointed director of development at Cardiff Blues. I came across him as a teenager and he ruled our rugby set-up with an iron fist, but in situations, but it’s good because he sets standards and keeps them high.

I know him well and he can be intense, but there be another side to him — you just have to catch him at the right time.

He’s a good guy and it was great to play alongside him.

I’M taking a break and seeing how things pan out.

Rugby has given me a lot and I would like to put something back in. I am coaching at Treorchy with Andrew Bishop and enjoying it.

We won division one east central last season but missed out on promotion to the Championship after losing to Rhydyfelin in the play-off final. But it was great to see the boys have such a good season.

I know it’s a crowded field but I would like to coach at academy level or perhaps in the Welsh Premiership. I am thinking of doing my badges and I feel I have a fair bit to offer.

I played under some outstanding coaches over the years and it would be strange if I didn’t learn a few things off them. It’s about getting a chance, I suppose. Bish is showing what he’s about at Treorchy and it has been good to work with him. I’ll just see how it goes. I just want to be as good as I can in whatever I do.
