Interest, but no offers yet for Noone

-

NEIL Warnock has revealed that “a couple” of clubs have shown interest in winger Craig Noone this summer, but confirmed there has been no contact for any of his other Cardiff City stars.

Noone has been destined for the exit door since the end of the previous campaign but has featured for the Bluebirds during their pre-season campaign.

The 29-year-old – who is in the final year of his contract with the club – scored for the Under-23 side in their 5-1 thrashing of Hereford on Wednesday night and will be involved again later this week, either in the first team’s clash with Livingston on Friday or the Under-23 side’s game at Harrow Borough a day later.

And Warnock has revealed that there has been interest in the wideman, although the Cardiff manager doesn’t expect Noone to leave the club until the back end of the summer transfer window.

“I’ve already told Craig that he’ll have to play on Saturday if he’s not involved on Friday just to get them minutes on board and then we’ll see what happens once the season starts,” said Warnock.

“I think people know about him now.

“There’s one or two things behind the scenes where agents are talking to people etc. but there’s nothing come up yet that’s whetted our appetite.

“I don’t think we’re in a rush with that really, I think people like Craig Noone, at the end of August, that’s where people start (looking), when you’ve played two or three games and things aren’t going well and you look who’s available.”

Warnock has seen Junior Hoilett and Kadeem Harris both put pen to paper on new deals to remain with the Bluebirds beyond the summer while he has also brought in Nathaniel Mendez-Laing from Rochdale.

And the Yorkshireman admits Noone – who joined the Bluebirds from Brighton in 2012 – will thrive in his new surroundings when he does eventually leave the Welsh capital.

“He’s that type of player really is Craig, I think he needs to move and I think he’ll do really well for the team that he goes to,” added the Cardiff boss.

“I’m not in any rush, he doesn’t cause me any problems, he’s a good lad.

“There’s a couple of clubs spoken to us about paying some his wages etc. but nothing that interests us at the moment.”

And when asked if there has been interest shown in any of his other players, the Cardiff boss responded: “No not really, not that I’m aware of.”
