- SALLY KROUMA echo.newsdesk@walesonline.co.uk

TODAY is your last chance to enter your beloved companion into our Pet Idol competition, in association with Heath Vets.

We’re on the hunt for South Wales’ cutest pet, so make sure you get snapping.

All kinds of pets are welcome to enter, from rats, cats, parrots, puppies... and dare we say it, even tarantulas.

Each pet who is entered will feature in our Pet Idol picture pullout in the South Wales Echo on Wednesday, August 23.

Readers will then have the opportunity to vote for the pet that they think is the cutest via phone, text or collecting special coupons we print in the paper.

The winner of the competition will not only win the coveted title of the South Wales Echo’s Pet Idol 2017, but will also win a year’s worth of pet food courtesy of Heath Vets in Cardiff.

Jess Eliss, marketing manager at Heath Vets said: “We are thrilled to be supporting this competition for the second time, and hope it will be an even greater success than last year.

“Once again, we at Heath Vets are all looking forward to seeing your wonderful photographs”.

Last year’s Pet Idol was the bilingual Blodyn, a chocolate labrador who responds to commands both in English and Welsh, who received the most votes in the competition.

Blodyn – Welsh for “flower” – lives in Cardiff with Charlotte Goodwin and her partner Rhodri Charles-Williams.

Charlotte said: “We got her as a puppy from a farm in Cowbridge almost two years ago.

“All her brothers and sisters were running around going mental and she was sat in the corner by herself so we felt a bit sorry for her.

“We weren’t sure what to call her but we nicknamed her Blodyn and it just stuck.”

Charlotte described Blodyn as an affectionate and energetic dog who loves to go on long runs. She also has a special talent – she can respond to commands in English and Welsh.

“We speak Welsh and English at home and my partner has been able to teach her to obey him in both,” Charlotte said.

“Our friends call her ‘the bilingual dog’ because she’s really good at listening to instructions in both languages.

“I used to hate dogs before I got her but she’s such a good and wellbehaved dog that I’ve become a convert.”

If you think your pet has got what it takes to win, simply fill in our form online and upload a picture of your pet before 5pm today.
