New buses on the road after £1.7m investment

TEN new buses have taken to the roads of the capital after a £1.7m investment by Cardiff Bus.

The new fleet is operating on the number 27 route to the city centre via Thornhill, Llanishen, Caerphilly Road and North Road.

The Mercedes Citaro single deck buses feature audio-visual bilingual next stop informatio­n system, free 4G wifi and USB charging points, updated interiors and CCTV.

Cardiff Bus said the new vehicles adhere to the standards.

The new buses form part of a wider £10m investment by the service operator to enhance its fleet during the past five years.

Cardiff Bus managing director Cynthia Ogbonna said: “We are delighted to be introducin­g these significan­tly enhanced vehicles into Cardiff’s travel network.

“We hope our £1.7m investment and improved facilities assert Cardiff Bus’ commitment to providing a firstclass service to all our loyal customers.

“These new vehicles have seen a major overhaul to provide a more latest low emission comfortabl­e, safe and accessible journey for all our customers.

“We have also demonstrat­ed our commitment to reducing fuel emissions by utilising some of the latest environmen­tally friendly engines.

“This is part of a five-year investment by Cardiff Bus, so we look forward to finally seeing them servicing our loyal passengers across the city.”

Cardiff Bus, which is owned by Cardiff council, has a fleet of more than 220 buses and carries 28 million passengers a year.
