St John’s College: The best A-level record in Wales over 17 years

-

ST John’s College’s welcoming family atmosphere ensures that pupils receive personal care and individual support to develop their full potential, and this is a key ingredient in the school’s success in achieving the best A-level record in Wales over the last 17 years.

St John’s College is frequently ranked top school in Wales in The Sunday Times ‘Parent Power.’ Its most recent Estyn inspection report graded the school ‘Excellent,’ including the seldomawarded ‘Excellent’ grade for quality of teaching, and observed that the school achieves ‘exceptional outcomes for pupils of all abilities’ (Crown Copyright, 2012).

The school has a very distinguished record of success in university admissions, with many sixth-formers proceeding to leading Russell Group universities and Oxbridge. Academic excellence is dovetailed with extensive co-curricular opportunities helping to equip students for life at university and beyond.

The school’s most recent sixth-form cohorts are now studying Architecture (Emmanuel College Cambridge), Economics (King’s College Cambridge), History and Economics (The London School of Economics), Law (Bristol), Medicine (Queen’s College Cambridge and Pembroke College Oxford), Engineering (Imperial College), Dentistry (King’s College London) and Music (Christ Church Oxford and Bristol) and several other leading universities.

Throughout the school there is an extensive and varied sports programme, Duke of Edinburgh Award, a wide range of co-curricular clubs and societies, with ample opportunity for drama, performance and public speaking, as well as established high-level career and volunteering opportunities.

St John’s College has an enviable musical reputation. A remarkable number of its maths and science students proceed to medical school and the most competitive university courses and are also grade 8 and diploma-level musicians. One of its oboists, Morgan Foley, obtained the highest mark in WJEC Further Maths (600/600) and is now studying physics at Trinity College Cambridge.

The St John’s College sixth-form open evening will take place on Thursday, October 12, from 4.30pm to 7pm.
