Swansea University riding wave of success

-

THERE has never been a better time to study at Swansea University. As a world-class research institution with grand ambitions, it is an exciting place to be as it aspires to become one of the top 200 universities in the world ahead of its centenary celebrations in 2020.

Swansea became the top university in Wales in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 league table, winning its inaugural Welsh University of the Year title.

The recent Teaching Excellence Framework assessment judged that Swansea University delivers high quality teaching, learning and outcomes for its students and was rated worthy of a silver award. Swansea has also been awarded a five-star rating for teaching quality for three consecutive years by the internationally-recognised QS Star quality scheme.

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions, showed that Swansea University achieved its ambition to be a top-30 research-led university, soaring up the league table to 26th in the UK from 52nd position in 2008. This was the largest climb up the rankings of any research-intensive university in the UK.

The Guardian University Guide 2018 shows that Swansea University is among the top 20 universities in the UK for a wide range of subjects, with six subjects making the top-10. Swansea has links with more than 100 partner universities and organisations in exciting destinations around the world, and aims to offer all its undergraduate students the opportunity to study or work abroad.

Students are supported by the employability academy to gain the skills and experiences needed to achieve graduate employment. The Guardian University Guide 2018 showed that Swansea performs above average for career prospects in the UK; ranking top in Wales.

Staff work hard to help students become well-rounded individuals. The overall student satisfaction in the National Students Survey (NSS) has been ranked within the top 20 for the last three years, scoring 90% or higher.

Swansea University is set in a unique location with two beachfront campuses both within easy reach of the city centre, but going to university is about much more than moving to a beautiful part of the world. It’s a chance to experience new things, learn about yourself, form lifelong friendships and develop skills that will lead to a successful career.

The students’ union supports more than 120 societies and 50 clubs, offering newcomers a chance to establish new friendships and try something new.

Welsh Varsity is the biggest student event in Wales and the highlight of the student social calendar. Swansea University boasts superb sporting facilities, including an International Sports Village, a beach and watersports centre, and has strong links with Swansea City FC and Ospreys and Scarlets Rugby.
