It’s not too late to secure your university place

-

JADE Williams had been to university, but decided the course she was studying wasn’t for her, so left to work at a bakery.

Three years later she realised it wasn’t what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, and thought again about university.

After seeing an online advert explaining she could get a place at the University of South Wales (USW) through clearing, she made contact.

After a whirlwind month, Jade started a course that’s helping her achieve her dream of working with crime victims.

“After A-levels I went to another university to study history, but it wasn’t for me. So I decided to take a job at a bakery and consider my options,” she said.

“Three years later I was still doing that, and not working towards my dreams, so I decided to go back into education.”

Although Jade decided to return to study, she wasn’t sure how it could happen for her.

“I was really nervous. I knew I’d missed the Ucas deadlines to apply for university, so was expecting to wait for another year,” she said.

“Then I saw the clearing advert saying there were places on the course I wanted to do, and contacted USW.

“From there it was really simple. The staff made it very easy to speak to the lecturers. We had a talk, I was offered a place, and, just over a month later, I was starting my degree.”

Jade’s experience of clearing also helped put her on the road to her dream career.

“I’ve always wanted to work with victims of crime, and the mix of subjects means I’ve been learning about the criminal system, and the people involved in it,” she said.

“It’s been a great experience, and I’m looking forward to working in that sector when I graduate.

“Going through clearing has really worked for me. Many people think there’s only one way to get into university, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“If you want to go, the staff at the university will do everything they can to make sure you’re learning what you need to get the job you’ve set your heart on.”

The University of South Wales has places on a wide range of courses. Call the clearing line today on 03455 76 06 06 to find a place.
