A WOMAN needed stitches after a gang of youths threw an object at her head while she was out walking.

The 22-year-old said an unknown object was thrown at her head while she was walking near Eastern Leisure Centre in the Llanrumney area of Cardiff on Friday evening.

The woman, who does not want to be identified, claims it was the latest in a number of “similar” attacks on people in the area.

She said: “I was out in Llanrumney just walking my dogs with my siblings and there was this group of youths, about 15 of them.

“I was by the skate park bit near the Eastern Leisure Centre and they were chucking stuff. I think it’s like a territorial thing.

“I was trying to take a picture of one of the dogs when something hit me.

“It must have been a rock or something that hit me in the back of the head.”

She said the youths, who were “dressed in all black”, walked away and did not acknowledge the incident, which happened at about 8.15pm.

After realising she was bleeding, the woman called the police and then went to the University Hospital of Wales, where she had six stitches after spending around three hours in Accident & Emergency.

She said: “It was really strange when it hit me. I was quite scared and I didn’t know what to do.”

The woman added: “My sister told me that some of her friends go up there quite often and they’ve seen similar things.

“I’m just hoping it doesn’t happen to anyone else.”

South Wales Police said it received reports at about 8.25pm on Friday of a “woman who received a blow to the back of the head with a foreign object” near Eastern Leisure Centre.

The spokesman said officers attended the scene 15 minutes after first receiving the call and that they carried out a search of the area.

Officers did not find anyone matching the description provided and the spokesman said there are currently no further lines of inquiry into the attack.

Llanrumney councillor Keith Jones called on residents who have witnessed similar behaviour in the area to report it to police.

Anyone with information about this incident should call South Wales Police on 101.
