A CARING mum of five was found dead on the floor of her home after being spotted by concerned neighbours, an inquest has heard.

The body of Adelle Williams, 44, was discovered at her Bridgend flat on April 28, after neighbours saw her through the window and raised the alarm.

An inquest at Aberdare Coroners’ Court on Thursday heard the former Porthcawl Comprehensive School pupil had become isolated after developing a drinking problem over a period of years but was trying to get some help at the time of her death.

A post-mortem examination carried out by pathologist Dr Maurizio Brotto found Ms Williams died from natural causes after suffering from liver failure caused by alcoholic liver disease.

In a statement read to the court, South Wales Police officer Dean Roberts described arriving at the flat in Maes-YFelin to find the former catering industry worker “lying on her stomach in her front room”.

Further inspections of the flat found empty wine bottles in the kitchen with two empty cider bottles in Ms Williams’ living room.

In a statement read out at the hearing, Ms Williams’ brother Jamie Thomas described his sister as a healthy and social person who had run marathons in her youth.

He said: “She was a very sociable person and had a good group of friends.

“She was a very good mum too and she made [her children] her priority.

“She was very caring and close to her mum and visited her every day. She was very family orientated and always put them first.”

Mr Thomas added the family had become worried about Ms Williams’ drinking after a number of years.

He said: “She always liked to have a drink socially and to relax but it seemed a bit excessive in the later years.

“We as a family became concerned about her excessive drinking.”

Coroner Andrew Barkley confirmed that an examination into Ms Williams’ death showed no evidence of trauma or assault.

Recording a conclusion of death by natural causes, Mr Barkley said: “The circumstances are that she was found alone at a secure property on the floor surrounded by empty alcohol bottles.

“This was very much a longstanding and chronic problem and there is nothing to suggest anything unnatural.”

Mr Barkley added that Ms Williams had been “trying to get some help with the affliction she had”.

A family member paid tribute to the “happy, bubbly and outgoing” mum.

She said: “She was well-loved by her five children and her friends and family.

“She will be sadly missed by her best friend and family members.”
