BOUQUET OF THE WEEK Sybil has done so much for Tenovus

-

A CANCER survivor who has raised thousands of pounds for charity is this week’s Echo Bouquet of the Week winner.

Sybil Fowler, from Rhiwbina, is part of Cardiff North Sing with Us Choir and Rhiwbina Friends of Tenovus Fundraising group.

She was nominated by the team at Tenovus Cancer Care for all the hard work she’s done for the charity over the last few years.

A spokeswoman for Tenovus said: “Sybil is extremely active in the community with raising funds and awareness for Tenovus Cancer Care since being diagnosed with breast cancer herself and losing her beloved husband, Rob, to pancreatic cancer.

“As part of Rhiwbina Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care, Sybil helped raise more than £15,000 last year, and recently organised a corporate golf day at St Mellons Golf Club raising £3,500.

“She’s an asset to the charity, always willing to help out in the office and at bucket collections and thoroughly deserves the bouquet of the week to recognise all of her hard work.”

Sybil, 59, was thrilled when she was told she would receive the bouquet, but she just wants to give something back to the charity that has done so much for her.

The mother, who has worked for BT and GE, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.

Six years later she is now “completely fine”, but she said the Sing with Us Choir played a great part in aiding her recovery.

Sybil said: “My nurse at the time was fantastic.

“After going to a choir session, she told me it was something I would enjoy so I went along and loved it.”

The choir also supported Sybil following her husband’s cancer diagnosis in 2013.

Rob sadly passed away in 2014, but Sybil said the support she had from the group was “wonderful”.

“The choir was just amazing,” added Sybil.

“The support I’ve had from the group has been wonderful – I have made some really great friends.

“I have a grown up daughter who has her own family now.

“They’re all fabulous but it’s nice to have somewhere to go with other people.”
