BABIES Leo’s now starting to giggle and sleeps well

Baby’s name: Leo John Parfitt. Date and place of birth: June 22 at 2.50pm at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. Weight: 7lb 2oz. Parents: Mum Leanne Jones, 32, a police constable, and dad Leigh Parfitt, 29, a Cardiff-based police sergeant, from Trelewis.

Mum’s story: “Leo is my first baby, and we found out we were pregnant on Halloween last year.

“I had a lot of sickness during the pregnancy, but I did work right up until June 21 on the Wednesday.

“When I went into hospital I had to be induced due to them seeing reduced signs of movement. I had my mum and Leigh with me during it.

“I had to eventually be rushed down because he had his cord around his neck. It was terrifying.

“They rushed me to theatre and I had an assisted delivery with forceps.

“I was disappointed too that I needed help as well.

“After he was born, me and Leigh were sat there waiting for him to cry but he didn’t for a while. It was about half an hour before they brought him back to me, but it felt like for ever.

“Leigh was really supportive throughout the whole thing. He was amazing.

“When they did bring Leo to us, that was the most amazing feeling, one I will never forget.

“I stayed in hospital until the Friday. The first time that we took him home was very overwhelming.

“It was like ‘right, we’ve got a new baby’ and he was just so beautiful laying in his cot looking up at us.

“It was just amazing, the best feeling ever. We didn’t find out what we were having either, and I think it was well worth it.

“We did have a name for a boy and a girl ready. But we had a few names for girls but for a boy it was always Leo.

“He’s sleeping well now too, and his character is coming through now and he’s starting to giggle.

“Life has changed a lot since having Leo, even just getting out of the house now takes longer.

“But I would not change a thing for the world, I can’t even really remember what life was like before now.”
