Blues trying to identify beer-throwing supporter

-

CARDIFF Blues have begun an investigation into Friday night’s beer-throwing incident during their Guinness PRO14 defeat to Glasgow Warriors but have yet to identify the supporter ejected from the Arms Park.

TV cameras picked up a fan, wearing a Blues shirt, hurling a pint of beer at top Irish referee George Clancy, who was running the line in the Welsh capital.

The supporter was swiftly ejected from the ground following the incident but the region have so far been unable to identify the man as a thorough probe into the incident gets under way.

It’s understood the man refused to give any personal details when he was escorted from the stadium, with pictures so far proving too unclear to provide a positive ID.

The Blues are considering a lifetime ban if the supporter can be identified.

In a statement the region said: “Cardiff Blues are aware of the incident involving a supporter during Friday night’s Guinness PRO14 clash with Glasgow Warriors.

“Under no circumstances do Cardiff Blues condone such behaviour and the spectator was swiftly and efficiently located and ejected from Cardiff Arms Park.

“The club are now conducting a thorough investigation. Once investigations are concluded the appropriate action will be taken.”

Blues chief executive Richard Holland released a statement on the weekend ahead of the investigation saying: “I spoke to George Clancy after the game and apologised on behalf of the club and he appreciated and accepted that.

“It’s an extremely serious incident and the individual concerned won’t be welcome back at the ground for the foreseeable future.

“We will assess the situation and deal with it in the appropriate manner.

“At this stage, a life ban is a serious consideration.

“It doesn’t look good at all. There is no place for this kind of thing in rugby and such behaviour will not be tolerated.

“You can’t condone it. There is no excuse for it.”
